Analytics is defined as the interpretation of data patterns that aid decision-making and performance improvement. HR analytics is defined as the process of measuring the impact of HR metrics, such as time to hire and retention rate, on business performance. Human resources is a people-oriented function and is so perceived by most people. But for those who think that the HR team’s contributions are limited to extending offer letters and onboarding new hires, human resource analytics (HR analytics) can prove them wrong. When used strategically, analytics can transform how HR operates, giving the team insights and allowing it to actively and meaningfully contribute to the organization’s bottom line.

HR analytics is the data HR teams gather and analyze to understand their company’s workforce. It includes everything from headcount, compensation, job title and function, work location (e.g. in-office or remote), hiring, onboarding, turnover, employee engagement, diversity and inclusion, learning and development, and more. Like a marketer would use data to shape an ad campaign or a company would use analytics to determine where to open a new office, HR teams use HR analytics to:
• Understand their workforce
• Efficiently deploy resources
• Plan for the future

This is especially critical for large companies with thousands of employees and multiple locations. HR analytics can help HR teams monitor employee performance and engagement to reduce turnover and build a more productive workforce. Being proactive, anticipating challenges an organization may face in future and planning solution strategies.

In order to support teachers of universities to understand and incorporate the HR Analytics theories and applications in their course curriculum, we are offering this training where the participants will have the opportunity to learn about the various theories of HR Analytics, with the necessary cases and exercises to start thinking and practicing the applications of the theories to deal with the challenges of modern HR students, who will have to use these theories in their professional lives. The sessions will provide the participants with the techniques to collect the HR data, interpret human resources data using analytics, solve problems and support HR strategies. We will also shed some light on how to develop HR Metrics in order to support the top management to track their HR related data to use in the effectiveness of their organizational goals.

Khan Muhammad Saqiful Alam

Saqiful is at present working in the Trust and Safety zone in TikTok, looking after the South Asia Markets. Besides that he is also a Commonwealth Scholar in National University of Singapore (NUS). His area of research is in Innovation and Application of Machine Learning in Business Strategy. Besides this, he is an analytics adviser of Intelligent Machines Limited (a company working with machine learning and big data) and Upksill (a professional training and certification platform), and work on several other strategic and analytics consultancy projects. He is also a professional trainer for Light Castle Partners, Upskill, GP Accelerator and NUS Executive Education School, and the community manager for Google Business Groups Sonargaon. He did his MSc in Operations and Risk Management from University of Manchester and did his BBA from IBA, Dhaka University.

His consulting and work areas of focus are – data-driven decision making, application of machine learning in businesses, helping businesses be strategically data driven, strategic risk management and simulations. He also specializes on startup scaling up and strategic planning.

Parveen Sultana Huda

Parveen is a widely recognized professional of Bangladesh with 27+ years of experience in Human Resources Management & Development, Project Management, Entrepreneurship Development and Skills & Employment fields with leading organizations both as a professional and consultant. Parveen has so far provided support to various local and international clients, including the World Food Program, TFO Canada, the British Council, Asia Indigenous People’s Pact Foundation (AIPP based in Thailand), RTI International (USA), Sesame Street (US), Primark UK, PwC (PricewaterhouseCoopers LLC, UK), ILO, GIZ (previously GTZ), ITC (International Trade Centre – Geneva), ActionAid International (Bangladesh, Vietnam & Pakistan), etc.

Before becoming a full-time consultant – she worked for various organizations for 12 years with her last full-time job as the Head - HR & IT in ActionAid Bangladesh. Before that she worked in CARE Bangladesh, OTOBI Ltd., Square Pharmaceuticals Ltd., and BEXIMCO group in reverse chronological order since 1994. Parveen has also been teaching at various private universities since 2000.

With her HR Development focus – she is capable of designing and implementing skill development programs for multiple sectors such as the Ready-Made Garments, Construction and Pharmaceuticals Industry. She has recently completed a role as a Co-Trainer for Export Launchpad Bangladesh, managed by TFO Canada along with the Business Promotion Council of the Ministry of Commerce, funded by ITFC and Global Affairs Canada. She also worked in 2019 as a Trainer for ITC SheTrades Commonwealth project to provide training to female entrepreneurs to increase their export earnings. She has been validated as a Core Skills trainer for the British Council’s Global Education Program – Connecting Classrooms, Phases 3 & Phase 4 since 2015 up to 2021. Between 2018-19 she worked with the Centre for Peace & Justice of BRAC University to train 320 female students to two public universities in “Peace Building, Leadership & Entrepreneurship” for UN Women’s “Empowering Women: Peaceful Communities” project. She has worked as the Project Manager for a project titled Digital RMG Factory Mapping – Bangladesh (DRFM-B), which is being implemented by BRAC University. She worked as the Deputy Policy Advisor for the DFID & SDC initiative titled Skills and Employment Program – Bangladesh (Sudokkho). Parveen is also has completed 3.5 years as the Country Manager, Bangladesh of Business Innovation Facility, which is a UKAID funded project managed by PricewaterhouseCoopers UK.

She attended a 3 days Training of Trainers on Convening and Facilitating Multi-stakeholder Dialogues in Value Chain Development; organized by Value Chain capacity Building – Network, funded by IFAD and organized by Helvetas Vietnam in October 2018 in Thailand. She has received an Australian Government Fellowship offered by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) to attend a 3 weeks course in Australia titled “Women Empowerment through Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Sustainable Development in Nepal and Bangladesh”; organized by the University of Southern Queensland. She has completed the Partnership Brokering Course Level One Certification from The Partnering Initiative (TPI) of International Business Leaders Forum (IBLF), UK. She had received an ILO scholarship to attend a training program at the ITC (International Training Centre) of ILO on Turin, Italy. She is an ITC (Geneva) Certified Supply Chain Management Trainer for DCCI, Bangladesh. In addition, she has attended various training and conferences in UK, Australia, Italy, Thailand, South Korea, UAE, Kenya, South Africa, Vietnam, Malaysia, Nepal, India and Sri Lanka. She has received an MBA degree from IBA, DU and currently studying Masters in Development Studies in BRAC University.
